JON RAFMAN
Ever hear the story about the boy who pretended to be sick and took a day off school? No? Well, he did and, to conceal his deceit, he built an elaborate bedroom contraption that made it look like he was asleep in bed should anyone check. Then, he got his best friend, a boy who’s eyes were very close together but who’s dad owned some vintage Ferraris and who was actually home off school with a real illness, to come with him on his daytime adventure. If enlisting his friend wasn’t enough, this first boy (the one pretending to be ill) phoned the school, pushed his bloody luck imitating his girlfriend’s father, and hauled his girl out of school to join the two lads on their daytime adventure too. Now, in the end they were caught, but were so close to getting away with it. But, when the boy’s father checked directions to a nearby Radioshack on Google Earth, he spotted his son (the one pretending to be ill) on a carnival float. Game over.
Anyway, this story is what may or may not have inspired Jon Rafman to dedicate 13 years of his life combing every far corner of Google maps’ street view for these outstanding images…
